Planning The Wedding – Crucial Steps

By Adriana Noton, January 27, 2010 1:05 pm

Weddings are fun, but anyone who has ever planned a wedding might be happy to tell you about the horror stories of everything that went wrong. Unfortunately, this happens all too often no matter how well you plan or how experienced your resources might be. Planning the wedding doesn’t have to be like that, though.

Of course, trying to cram plans into a tiny timeframe just doesn’t work well. Arranging a reception for 200 people in two weeks is all but impossible if you expect all the bells and whistles to be perfectly in place. One of the most important factors, therefore, in planning any wedding is to make sure the timeframe matches the type of wedding.

The dress can be a problem all by itself. Too many women tend to design their wedding dresses in their heads, and then try to find the exact one. Weeks and months of dress shopping frequently end up in tears and utter disappointment. In today’s world not many people have this kind of time and many brides are therefore looking for options. These options include renting a dress, buying a used one, or just foregoing the official wedding dress altogether and choosing cocktail attire. Let the bridesmaids do the same thing.

No one can make all the necessary wedding plans all alone. You need help. You need to have at least a few people to rely on. Delegate! If you’re into micromanaging everything, technology can help. Smart phones can show you pictures of flowers, videos of churches and halls, and even photos of wedding cakes. Let someone else do the legwork and you can still make the final decision.

You don’t need to do it all yourself. Learn to delegate. You’ll be surprised how things can get done if you choose some reliable friends, give them an assignment, and leave them alone. Almost everyone has a smart phone that can be used like a laptop ‘ if they have questions or want your opinion on something they can send you pictures, text you a question, or even take a video walking around a reception hall to see if you like it.

Even if you don’t have an artistic bone in your body, you can still print your own invitations. Specialty kits that include everything from paper stock to envelopes to ribbons and more can be ordered online or found in office supply stores. To save even more time, add an email address instead of having people mail those pesky little RSVP cards back. What was gauche even 10 years ago is now considered de rigueur. The same goes for wedding photos. Hire a professional wedding photographer to fulfill your needs.

This is perfect for a late afternoon wedding, especially a less than formal event. Any of these choices can be quite elegant and very memorable.

Don’t forget to check on your transportation a few days ahead. Whether you are using limos or depending on friends, double check addresses, times, routes and even talk about parking availability in larger cities for friends driving in.

To avoid additional problems, request that guests not bring gifts to the reception unless it is being held at your home, of course. This eliminates the need to move them again.

Professional wedding planners strive to make all weddings momentous and unforgettable. Their extensive services include hiring a Toronto wedding photographer, booking the banquet hall Toronto, and ordering the Toronto wedding cakes. Let your wedding mark the start of a long and blissful married life!

Beautiful Flowers – A Valentine’s Day Staple

By Adriana Noton, January 16, 2010 1:21 pm

How Valentine’s Day evolved is a fascinating story. In early Roman times, the Roman Feast of Lupercalia was a celebration of pagan fertility held on February 14 that honored the Queen of Oman known as Juno, the Roman gods and goddesses, as well as the goddess of marriage and women. During the celebrations, women would write special love letters and place the letters in an urn. The men would then retrieve a letter from the urn and passionately court the woman who wrote the particular love letter.

The most well known origin of Valentine’s Day comes from a 3rd century Roman priest by the name of Valentine. Against the explicit orders of Emperor Claudius II, Valentine performed secret marriages. The Emperor prohibited marriages because he thought that unmarried soldiers were more apt to enlist in his army. Valentine was caught and sentenced to death. The story says that Valentine conveyed a letter to a friend which was signed ‘From Your Valentine’ just prior to his execution on February 14 in 270 A.D. In 496 A.D., in honor of St. Valentine as the patron saint of lovers, Pope Gelasius named St. Valentine’s Day on February 14th. Ever since that time, people all over the world have been celebrating Valentines Day.

Flowers have become a staple of Valentines Day.
